Cyber Security, AAS


Program Description

Code 201 - 62 Credits

The Associate of Applied Sciences in Cyber Security is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, skills and abilities in computing technologies, networking and programming that are required to be successful in the cybersecurity field. Cybersecurity workers help prevent attacks through their expertise and knowledge of databases, networks, hardware, firewalls and encryption. They keep computer systems running smoothly, prevent the theft of financial and personal information, and block intruders from accessing and divulging proprietary data.  Upon completion of this degree, the student will be better prepared for the opportunities and an increasing number of jobs that are requiring this knowledge and skill set. This program incorporates the preparation for current and future industry certifications in the Cyber Security area.

Prerequisite Requirements

Strong reading skills and some background in mathematics are recommended prior to attempting courses in the computer engineering technology program.

Program Learning Outcomes


  1. Evaluate the computer network and information security needs of an organization.
  2. Assess cybersecurity risk management policies in order to adequately protect an organization’s critical information and assets.
  3. Measure the performance of security systems within an information system.
  4. Troubleshoot, maintain and update an information security system.
  5. Analyze and evaluate the cybersecurity needs of an organization.
  6. Implement cybersecurity solutions.
  7. Design operational and strategic cybersecurity strategies and policies.

Required General Education Courses


All first-time KCC students must complete the FYS 101 - First Year Seminar course with a grade of C or higher. See an Academic Advisor for course completion and/or any questions pertaining to the FYS course.
